I am from Turkey, and I have been following Turkish politics since I was born; it never ceased to confuse me.
Apart from this relevant fact to the talk, I am doing my PhD in cognitive science with a blend of neuroscience at the University of Tübingen, currently complaining about the most recent heat wave.

There is no question that Turkey is always at a crossroads. With recent events, the political crisis has reached another tipping point. The arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu on dubious charges, alongside paradoxical peace talks with the PKK, reveals a regime that is difficult to conceptualize and understand.
In this talk, focusing on recent developments, (a) the systematic erosion of democracy, (b) the Kurdish dilemma, and (c) Turkey’s youth-led protests, I will discuss historical fault lines and their connection to current events, hopefully helping understand why Turkey is perpetually at a crossroads.
